Posted by TuTeng on

【Watch culture】 We all know that the Vallée de joux is the "heart" of the Swiss watch industry. It has a cold climate and high altitude, and is often isolated from the outside world due to heavy snow covering the mountains. It is precisely because of such geographic factors that the local residents are objectively motivated. Excluding external interference and devoting great attention to watchmaking skills, the Ru Valley has become a major watchmaking center in Switzerland and even a world-class watchmaking industry. Throughout the modern watchmaking industry, Switzerland and Germany have come together to advance, and there is also a famous watchmaking town in Germany. Over the past 100 years, countless legendary watches have been born to the world's admiration. This is Glashütte Town.

The town of Glashütte taken in 1895

"Glashütter" in German means "glass factory", and the prosperity of the original town of Glashütte is closely related to the smelting industry. Thanks to the rich mineral resources, a large number of glass processing plants have been established in the region since the 15th century. Unfortunately, the good times didn't last long. Due to years of grabbing natural resources and destroying wars, the glass smelting industry in Glashütte turned from prosperity to decline. At this time, the town was facing unprecedented economic difficulties and transformation was imminent.

It was under his leadership that the town of Glashütte got rid of difficulties and established the town’s important position in the watchmaking industry. . Lange, who returned from school in 1845, led his apprentices and founded the Lange Company, and officially used the name A. Lange & Söhne in 1868. Nowadays, Lange has become a leader in the watchmaking industry in Glashütte and a model of German watches.

When people discuss the town of Glashütte, the first thing many people think of is the brand Glashütte Original. In 1951, all independent watchmaking companies in Glashütte were merged into a United Nations-owned enterprise: Glashütte Watch Factory (GUB). In the 1990s, with the reunification of Germany and the social system, GUB was reorganized into a limited company and completed privatization. , Officially changed its name to the brand we are familiar with today-Glashütte Original in 1994.

Fairytale town of Glashütte

In addition to the well-known "Glashütte Original", Glashütte also has many brands. If Swiss watchmaking represented by the Ru Valley is noble and elegant, then German watchmaking represented by the town of Glashütte appears friendly and romantic. For more than a hundred years, the town of Glashütte has been telling the legendary development of German industry and the craftsmanship spirit of excellence like a fairy tale.
